Christmas on the Lake...

Organising Christmas parties and get togethers can be stressful and time consuming, not only in the lead up, but also on the day or night, meaning if you are the one doing the hosting and organising, you get very little time to sit back and enjoy the festive season.

Therefore, get away from all of the cooking, cleaning and mixing of drinks this year and have Christmas and even New Year’s by the lake. Armathwaite Hall in Keswick is set on an expansive private estate and is a typically stately and luxurious English country house.

Armathwaite Hall adjoins Bassenthwaite Lake and provides suites and dinning opportunities to enjoy the relaxation and tranquillity which only comes from being by the water. Armathwaite Hall is hosting a myriad of Christmas and New Year’s celebrations and to get the festive relaxation started before you have even unpacked your suitcase, hire a limousine to take you out to Keswick. All of the festive celebrations are conducted at the Hall and around the grounds so you won’t even miss your car. When you are ready to leave, all you have to do is call back your chauffeur to help you reload your suitcases and take you smoothly and comfortably home.

However, in between your arrival and departure in a limousine there is plenty of festive fun to enjoy. Christmas Eve 2006 at Armathwaite Hall is celebrated with cocktails and canapés served by the senior members of the hotel staff, before a celebration for your tastebuds in the Lake View Restaurant where you can watch the moon reflected in the lake and listen to the relaxing strains of the Hall’s pianist who will lead the Christmas carols before Midnight Mass.

Breakfast is served on Christmas Day with a glass of Bucks Fizz and you can take the time to wander the grounds of the Hall or simply try out the gifts you have just received. Regardless of how you have worked up your appetite, you must save room for the six traditional courses of the Festival Feast.

The Feast is followed by coffee and mince pies in the Lake Room and this is also where Santa Claus makes his stop at Armathwaite Hall for the younger guests. The Queen’s Speech is also a part of the Christmas celebrations in Keswick, after which guests are invited to rug up for a candlelight walk around the grounds of the Hall.

On returning from the candlelight walk, you will be offered a cold buffet which is coupled with some traditional Medieval entertainment including fire eaters, riddles, music and dancing.
